Fall Back Time Change

This is a friendly reminder to set your clocks back one hour this Saturday night for daylight savings time. Enjoy the extra hour of sleep and we will see you Sunday morning “live” on Facebook and YouTube or live in-person for our 10:00am service.

Building Update

We want to keep all of you up to date on the Hurricane Sally recovery. If you have not heard, our building suffered damages on all three floors. Our contractor has completed his estimate and has submitted it to our insurance company. The contractors estimate was roughly $900,000. At this time, our insurance company has sent in their estimate for an extremely lower amount. We have now contacted one of our church members who is local attorney who works with organizations to fight insurance companies so that we can make sure we get the money to cover the damages to our building. We are praying this does not go into mediation with our insurance company, but we must all agree to an amount that will cover the costs involved in bringing our building back to its full potential. Please be in prayer for church leadership, our contractors, and our insurance company as we work together to try and find what is best. If you have questions regarding the building, please email Savannah at scox@firstcitychurch.org.

FC Kids Reopening November 1

We are excited to reopen FC Kids this Sunday, November 1st! As of right now, we will only be taking children between the ages of 3 years old and potty-trained through 5th grade. We want this to be fun and safe for all our kids at First City so we have put together some new safety guidelines. We are asking that each family planning to attend on this Sunday, November 1, register their kids prior to arriving that way we can have their check-in tags already printed. To register and view the rest of the safety guidelines, please click the button below:

Coronavirus Update

We have loved being able to see you all face to face each week and have missed everyone who attends online. We have some updates for our in-person attenders on Sunday mornings. Starting this Sunday, we will no longer have the pew blocks up. We still want to encourage social distancing and ask that people sit near people they feel comfortable around. At this time, we will still be requiring masks for everyone attending per city regulations. We will continue to go live each Sunday at 10:00am on Facebook and YouTube. If you have any questions regarding these changes, please email us at info@firstcitychurch.org.

Building Update

We want to keep all of you up to date on the Hurricane Sally recovery. If you have not heard, our building suffered damages on all three floors. We have a contractor who has been working to put together his estimate of how much it will cost to fully restore our building to its full potential. Once that estimate is complete, we will give that to our insurance company, and they will either approve or deny our request for funding of that amount. After we settle on an amount with the insurance company, our contractor can then begin the work needed. Our goal is to have the estimate complete and submitted to the insurance by the end of the week. If you have questions regarding the building, please email Savannah at scox@firstcitychurch.org.

Our goal is to have each small groups complete their project by the end of March. If you haven’t already picked a project with your group to help serve our community, try to this week and report it to the church office. Save the date, be in prayer, and plan on joining us for Easter on April 12. This year we will be celebrating the resurrection with baptisms. Baptism declares to the world you’ve trusted Jesus, joined God’s family, and made a commitment to follow Jesus. It’s pretty special! Baptism is your first step in publicly declaring your new walk of faith in God. If you would like to be baptized this Easter use the button below to sign up now.

Parking on Sunday Mornings

Since moving to one service, we know that parking has been more crowded. This a great problem to have because we want this place filled with life on Sunday mornings. With that, we want to encourage all of our members to park in the far parking lot so that our guests have premier paring while they attend. The State Farm parking lot is available for people to park in and the grass along both sides of 13th Avenue. As we continue to grow, we will begin to explore other parking options as well.

Corona Virus Precautions

We are aware of the current situation with the COVID-19. With that, we are taking as many precautions are we can to keep all of our areas as clean as possible for our members and visitors. As of right now, we will continue our Sunday Service at 10:00am for everyone. We will continue to reassess this plan as things continue to progress and spread throughout the United States. For those of you who would like to participate, but don’t feel comfortable attending on Sunday morning, we want to encourage you watch our Facebook Livestream. It will begin each Sunday at the same time as our normal service on our First City Church Facebook page.

Guest Speaker – Nathan Castleberry: September 22nd

This Sunday, Nathan Castleberry from Mountain Lake Church outside of Atlanta, GA, will be our guest speaker encouraging us all to be used by God as we go into our community and make a difference. He will be using Acts 2:42-47, as a backdrop for our message time together. We are excited to have him with us.

Encounter Sunday: September 29th

Please join us for our 5th Sunday, Encounter Worship on September 29th during both services. We will be taking more time to focus on worship and talking about what it should look like in our daily lives. This Encounter Sunday we will put special emphasis on communion. Why was this “Love Feast” such an important time for the early believers? How important is it for us today? Don’t miss this time of worship.

Ministry Updates

Small Groups Sign Up

Our Fall Small Group Semester kicked-off September 1st and we have had a great semester so far. It’s not too late to join a group. If you’re interested in joining and haven’t had the chance yet, click on the button below for a list of all our groups this semester.

Small Group Babysitting

Each semester we offer childcare for all our Wednesday night small groups that meet at the building, and we want to continue to offer this to our parents. We are looking for one more babysitter to help on Wednesday nights from 5:45-8:15pm. You must be 18 or older and have had a background check. If this is something you would be interested in, please email info@firstcitychurch.org or call Rick Hazelip at (404) 788-9259.

Lift Experience Cancelled

In the last edition of the First City Minute, and at All Together Wednesday, we mentioned having a Lift Experience on September 28th. We would like to inform you that this event has been cancelled so we no longer need volunteers to help set up on September 26th. Thank you so much for your willingness to serve. If you have any questions, or would like to volunteer with Lift in another way, email lift@firstcitychurch.org.
